DIY Drip Painting – What’s YOUR favorite color?
Welcome to my Blog, the DIY part of Kylie.T. Interiors. Today I’m going to show you how to make a simple DIY drip painting. These look great and are so easy in fact my 1st and 2nd grader made them for teacher appreciation gifts.
1 – Paint of various colors (acrylic, craft, wall paint)
2 – Canvas sheet (craft store, Michaels, AC Moore)
3 -Paint brush
4 – Water spray bottle
5 – Cardboard box
6 – Tape (I used packing tape)
7 – Tin foil
How do we make it?
Step 1: Make a drip tray out of the tin foil. Take a piece of foil and tape one side along the bottom of the cardboard box. Roll it up at the other side to form a lip. Bend up each end to form a collection tray. Re-enforce the corners with tape if you wish. This is your easel or your working space.
Step 2: Take a sheet of canvas and tape it about 4” (10cm) from the top of the box on the front side. Tape along the bottom of the canvas also. Taping both ends of the canvas will keep it flat once it gets wet and then dries a few times.
Step 3: Select your first color and put a few random BIG BLOBS of paint at the top of the canvas
Step 4: Take your spray bottle and spray water on the paint just enough so that it runs down the canvas. You can direct it with the paint brush or paint brush handle to help.
Step 5: Let it dry. For a more contrasted effect let each color dry before you apply the next this way they are less likely to run/mix together.
Step 6: Repeat steps 3 – 5 for all your colors until your design is as you want it. You can repeat the colors if you need to get the correct ratio in your picture.
Step 7: Allow to dry completely
Step 8: Place into your frame and display.
…and your done! You have a custom DIY Drip Painting
