Indulge your creative inspiration -Find beauty in the simple things
Welcome to the DIY part of Kylie T Interiors. Today I want to talk about creative inspiration. Inspiration comes from every where and any-where. Yesterday I got a flyer in the mail using the above picture to lure customers into a home goods store. I looked at the picture and felt SOMETHING. I’m not sure what I felt but it certainly was a positive vibe and although I didn’t need to buy anything from that particular store, I wanted to KEEP the picture. WEIRD!!! Was it the colors? The subject matter (I love tea)? The casual conversation associated with having a cup of tea with someone? The comfort of cake??? I don’t know but from that one little picture I knew I was inspired to CREATE something. So, with my gorgeous 4yo gal, I got out my greeting card making supplies and we both started to play. Girly day begin!
I can’t help myself, usually when I buy something with pretty packaging I keep it and up-cycle it into something else. Todays project has plenty of that in it. In addition you’ll need simple scrapbooking items i.e. papers, ribbons, embellishments, glue tape, ruler, stencil knife, cutting mat, not to mention – great music, company and cups of tea/coffee.
Theres not much to write about in terms of we did, the cutting and pasting are pretty self-explanatory. However, yes there’s one, when I make greeting cards I do it in multiples of ten. The reason is because I like to play around with different combinations of whatever materials I’m using to see how it changes the overall look – it’s incidental practice for interior decorating I suppose, plus it pushes me to explore past my “I’m done moment” (there’s always more to explore). Exploring these concepts is in my nature. Color, composition, texture, pattern the works. When it comes together it’s magic. Be my guest, take a look. Some combos worked well, others not so much – I urge you to from your own opinion and would love to hear your thoughts!
I hope you enjoyed this little experiment as much as we did, please share your thoughts with me about where you found YOUR latest creative inspiration and how these cards felt to you i.e. which ones you like the most/least? and why?…
